McIntosh County Shouters to perform in Boulder, Colorado!

Musical Explorers–March 8 & 9, 2019 Savannah, GA

For the past several years, the McIntosh County Shouters have been invited to participate in a special “Musical Explorers” event in Savannah, GA and perform for over 10,000 children. We have enjoyed every time we have performed for this wonderful program sponsored by Carnegie Hall.

On March 8 & 9, we will return to Savannah to participate in yet another wonderful program. We are proud and honored to be part of this worthy event. Thank you, Carnegie Hall and to all the sponsors!

Jonkonnu Symposium

Enslaved Lives, Traditions, and Cultures in the Americas

North Carolina History Center

Registration for the Jonkonnu Symposium, Lunch, and Dinner has ended. We look forward to seeing all of our registered guests on Saturday, November 17!

Explore the origins of Jonkonnu, a Christmas-time activity of enslaved Africans in the Americas. This FREE symposium features Tryon Palace’s own Jonkonnu troupe, the McIntosh Shouters of Georgia, and a wide-range of guest speakers who cover such topics as “African traditions and Cultures,” the “Ring Shout,” “Gullah-Geechee Culture,” “Jonkonnu in the Bahamas,” and modern-day “Hip-Hop” music. The one-day event actually concludes with a keynote dinner address by Dr. Mark Anthony Neal of Duke University, an author, scholar, and nationally recognized expert and critic on the origin, rise and popular appeal of “Hip-Hop.”

On October 21, 2017, the McIntosh County Shouters performed at the Columbus Art Museum in Columbus, GA.  The room was filled to capacity and once again, the group received a standing ovation.  There are times when the room is filled with electricity and the audience feeds off the energy just as much as the group does.  This was one of those times.  It was an extraordinary event and so well received by all.  Following the program, the group was requested to be photographed with many audience members.  There were students who had written class projects about the group, classical musicians, people from all over Georgia who  came to see the group.  It was one of the busiest days at the museum,  and most of the visitors came to see the group.  Everyone was pleased.  Thank you, Columbus and Columbus Art Museum for supporting the McIntosh County Shouters and the ring shout!  We had a great time!
